Stand up paddle, also known as SUP, or simply paddle, is a water sport in which the rider stands on a board longer than a conventional surfboard, propelling themselves with a paddle.

Surfing in Bali is one of the most important aspects of the lifestyle. Here you can find the best waves on the planet. Surf stores, surf houses and surf schools are everywhere. Surfing is such an important part of the local culture that even the restaurants show surfing videos on TV. Everyone here talks about surfing and stand-up paddling.

Nestled in the Indonesian archipelago, with its rich culture and pristine beaches, Bali or otherwise known as the Island of the Gods, is an incredible place for every type and size of SUP. From very small boards to large ones. It always depends on the location, but mostly on the most important thing here on the island, the tide. Even if you want to surf in very difficult places with low tide, with high tide the waves become soft and easy to catch. But you should always be aware of the tide because everything can change in less than thirty minutes. When the tide goes out, the reef current starts to suck in, and this means that the reef water in the channel creates a lot of strong current that can bring you into the wave impact zone and conditions can then become dangerous for you and your Paddle, with powerful waves.

However, there are many quiet places where you can practice with your paddle inside the reef. Especially on the east coast of the south side like Nusa Dua and all along the North East side, like Sanur. Inside the reef, the water is really flat and there is very little current, so even beginners can find a good place to paddle easily.

There is only one thing you need to pay attention to: the sun. The sun is so strong in Bali! It’s always good to wear a cap and drink plenty of water or coconut water to stay hydrated.

With all this, how can you resist trying SUP in Sanur, especially since this year we are partnering with a great surf school “RIP CURL”. Therefore, you will enjoy a perfect SUP ride on the Balinese waters with our partner Rip Curl and then you could dive and discover the beautiful seabed of these waters with our team Dune Bali.
