EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE COURSE: PRIMARY AND SECONDARY CARE

PADI Emergency First Response (EFR) is the certifying organization for our course in Primary and Secondary Care, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use, and emergency oxygen administration.

You will learn how to respond when facing emergency situations. To be certified in Primary Care (CPR and rescue breathing) and Secondary Care (First Aid) is reassuring and very valuable, not just for diving, but also in our daily lives. This course will teach you how to respond to emergency situations pertaining to adults, children, and also infants.

As a diver, the EFR training will fulfill one of the prerequisites for the PADI Emergency First Response course and for the requirements to become a PADI Dive Master.

You will learn the basic steps and actions of a First Responder:

  1. Risk evaluation and using barriers
  2. Injury assessment
  3. Rescue breathing and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
  4. Bleeding management
  5. Responding to choking victims
  6. Shock management
  7. Bandaging and applying splints

The EFR curriculum:

PRIMARY ASSESSMENT: PRIMARY CARE FOR LIFE- THREATENING EMERGENCIES

  1. Scene assessment and risk evaluation
  2. Applying barriers
  3. Primary assessment and opening the airway
  4. Rescue breathing
  5. One-person CPR on an adult, child, and infant
  6. Managing severe bleeding
  7. Shock management
  8. Spinal injury management

SECONDARY ASSESSMENT: SECONDARY CARE PERFORMS A SECONDARY ASSESSMENT AND ADMINISTERS FIRST AID

  • Injury assessment
  • Illness assessment
  • Bandaging
  • Splinting for fractures and dislocations
