The first try dive experience of our marketing & communication interns Philip & Morgane. Dune Atlantis gave us the opportunity to do a try dive since we have never experience diving before. A try dive will make you feel in love with the underwater world. During this discovery you will get a brief explanation of what you have to do, how everything works and how the basic actions work. The explanation was well taken care of by Eka, an Indonesian instructor. She was clear and explained everything with a sense of humor. The equipment is very important as well. Eka has a lot of experience, because all the equipment she gave us to try (wetsuit, shoes, flippers, mask and BCD) fitted all in one go.

We left with one of the buses of Dune Atlantis towards Tulamben. Once we arrived we tried our gear and practiced breathing an signals underwater in the swimming pool. Personally I expected it to be more difficult to breath underwater. After the short pool practice we went out for our first dive in the sea.

The intention is that you slowly get into the water until you can’t touch the bottom. Then you continue to drive using your BCD (Buoyancy Control Device). When we were ready, we let all the air out of the BCD and slowly sink. The first 10 minutes are very strange, because you are 6 meters under water and you can still breathe.

When we were at the bottom, we had to do a few simple exercises. All this because of safety. We descend further and eventually we reached a depth of 12 meters. When you look up, you see the roof of the sea. This is such a strange experience. The fish are also less afraid of you. This is probably because you move less and are much deeper than the average person normally goes, so the fish are coming really close. During the second dive we went to the famous USAT Liberty shipwreck and we even saw a turtle!

After the dive we drove back and talk about this amazing experience. It is clear to me: I want to get my PADI Open Water certification during my stay in Bali!
